OECD 305: Bioaccumulation in fish (aqueous and dietary exposure)

The OECD 305: Bioaccumulation in Fish Study assesses the bioaccumulation potential of a given substance in fish, and is an important component of environmental fate studies for regulatory approval. The test can assess for both aqueous and dietary exposure in either a flow-through or semi-static test regime, although aqueous and flow-through designs are preferred. After a 28-day uptake phase and subsequent depuration, test substance concentrations are assessed. Results are expressed as a bioconcentration factor (BCF) for aqueous exposure and a biomagnifications factor (BMF) for dietary exposure, though BCF is weighted more heavily when assessing the bioaccumulation potential of a substance.
